Becoming a bride-to-be gives me a responsibilities to start learning to cook. How to make it easier (although it's not) is to start learing your menu of fave or your hubby's fave. I choose selat solo for the menu this time. Not only because the taste is good, but also the healthy side of it. Selat solo, known as javanese steak, consist of beef steak, or sometimes beef gelantin, served with green beans, carrot, fried potatoes and steak sauce with mayonaise and mustard. Simply, it sounds like steak, isnt it? yes it is, that is why it's known as javanese steak. Since the origin of selat solo itself is a fusion of javanese inheritance and european style. FYI, if you look more into the history of Keraton Solo that is willing to cooperate with dutch of company, here it is the selat solo, one of the heritage of those cooperation long long time ago.
I begin to start making this, with the help of my aunti. Lets say that this is more of her works than mine. And think that you will agree to start learning cooking by trying the simply way, than following the complicated way to make selat solo. You can compare this recipe with another recipe, which maybe taste better. But i guarantee that this is easier and the taste is still okay :D. Check this out!!
The Ingredients (8-10 serving)
1 kg Meat Loaf
50 gr onion, sliced
10 cloves of garlic,mashed
10 cloves of red onion, slice
a teaspoon of pepper
two teaspoon of salt
a bit of nutmeg (1/4 teaspoon)
3 tablespoon of soysauce
5 tablespoon of oil
1 litre of water
350gr greenbeans
350gr carrots
1 kg potatoes
Mayonaise
The beef
1 kg Meat Loaf, boil it and put a little of salt. Remove and drain.
With our own hand, form the stew meat into round shape (diameter about 7 cm)
The Vegie
Boil the green beans and carrot. Cut the green beans and carrots into 5 cm of length. Slice the tomatoes, the last, cut and fry the potatoes.
The Making
Put the oil into the pan, stir fry the red onion first, then put the onions and garlic after it,
Insert the meat, and followed with the pepper, salt and nutmeg.
Pour the water into the pan. Add a soy sauce. Wait until the water cooked, reduced or recede.
The Serving
Serve the beef with the sauce, the vegie around it and also put the mayonaise. Also you can add a little mustard too

FYI, the original taste of selat solo feature the taste of red onion, where i dont like the domination of it. At the original recipe, the comparison between red onion and onion is 4:3, but here i put the 1:1 of comparison. Also, for the variety of spices, sometimes we can use coriander, cumin (jinten), and cinnamon, if you prefer. Btw, the mayonaise or the moster (mustard) itself could be made with the using of mashed potatoes, refer to the original recipe, and we call it javanese mayonaise. But to make it simple, i prefer using mayonaise.
